#14: Experimental Perfume Club ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A pitch-perfect way to spend a Thursday afternoon
Howdy hi! Welcome to Five Star Fridays, where I encourage you to share the love by leaving a 5 star review for a business who’ve really impressed you recently. Not only are these reviews wonderful for the business owners to read (and maybe use in marketing and customer tone of voice research — I’m a copywriter, can you tell?) but they also help potential customers know they can trust them!
A few weeks ago I mentioned that I’d been on the hunt for a new perfume and had spent many hours marvelling over people’s genius on Fragrantica. Off the back of that, my wonderful Mum bought me a spot at an Experimental Perfume Club workshop, hosted for London Craft Week. On a rainy Thursday afternoon I trudged to Seven Dials — past the monument where a group of youths once asked me to take a photo on “Huji, it’s like an app, have you heard of it?” and made me want the earth to swallow me up — and began what was a couple of my favourite hours that I’ve had in recent times.
We first got an intro to fragrance from Roshni, who guided us through a number of different notes that we might find in perfume (including one synthetically made one which she described as smelling “like mown grass, with the lawnmower left in” — which was both 100% accurate but also smelled divine to me??). Then, we were led upstairs to learn more about EPC’s approach to perfumes, smelling their blends, before working with a perfumer to find and bottle our favourite scent.
I’m painfully aware that I can’t find the words to do it justice, much like I can’t find the words to properly describe scents (yet!) — but if you have the chance to go to EPC or, even better, one of their workshops, I’d so highly recommend it. It was So! Much! Fun!
With that in mind, I left them the below Google review:
Had an amazing time at the perfume workshop hosted at EPC - such an informative and fun experience, made even better by the wonderful staff who really embody the ethos of what EPC is for. I came away not only knowing so much more about fragrance, but with a delightful, unique scent too! Would highly recommend for a day out on your own, or in a group!
and they deserved every last star and penny.
Where will you leave a review for this week? Feel free to let me know in the comments!

Sometimes your FSF (that's Five Star Friday, for us in the know) doesn't have to be public; it can be straight to HQ about a stellar employee

Welcome to Five Star Fridays, a fortnightly feature where I shout out a small business that deserves their flowers/five stars. It works twofold: because I want to encourage you to spread some enthusiasm and leave 5 star reviews for companies that you’ve had a great experience with (because societally we don’t usually do this, but are super quick to leav…
